Local Offer

How does the setting/school/college know if children/young people need extra help and what should I do if I think my child/young person may have special educational needs?

During enrolment with the parents/carers we discuss their child's development and needs.

We track a child's development through observations. This will identify areas of strengths and weaknesses.

With parent or carer consent we would contact the SEN Advisory Team for further guidance. This could lead to SEN support within the setting and possible EHCP referral.

How will early years setting/school/college staff support my child/young person?

A child may be given a support person while in attendance. This person will work with the child on specific targets, this will include support during our daily routines, language groups, accessing provisions on offer. The support person will then liaise with other professionals and parents.

How will the curriculum be matched to my child's/young person's needs?

We have a free flow play system where activities can be accessed with ease. The support person will be able to evaluate the provision to insure that is accessible and also adapt to the child's level of development and understanding.

How will both you and I know how my child/young person is doing and how will you help me to support my child's/young person's learning?

The parent/carer will receive daily verbal feedback from the support person. This could include activities, interests and how the child has responded to certain parts of the routine. Observations, photos, reports are able to be viewed on a child's Tapestry journal.

What support will there be for my child's/young person's overall well being?

We offer a nurturing environment and approach to enable a child to be relaxed and happy within the setting. Their individual needs will be met through the provision an support available.

What specialist services and expertise are avaliable at or accessed by the setting/school/college?

We access guidance and support from outside agencies if required.

  • Speech and language,
  • Health visitors,
  • Family link support/Barnardo's,
  • SEN advisory team and children's services.
What training have the staff supporting children and young people with SEND had?

Staff regularly attend courses and training which are linked to SEND.

  • SENCO networking.
  • Attention Autism groups.
  • Safeguarding.
  • Makaton.
How will my child / young person be included in activities, including trips run by your setting?

A child would continue to have a support person to make outings and trips accessible for them.

How accessible is your education setting? (Indoors and outdoors)

Our setting is very accessible and inclusive. We have a open plan layout on one level with access to a large outside space.

How will the setting or school prepare and support my child to join the setting, school or the next stage of education and life?

We offer stay and play sessions before a child attends. They would meet our staff members and be able to spend time within the setting to ensure a smooth transition.

How are the education setting resources allocated and matched to children and young people's Special Educational Needs and disabilities?

Our setting purchases resources that can be matched to particular SEND or emotional needs. This can include: Makaton books, visual aids linked to autism, hearing, sight defects. Resources that can help a child's physical needs: higher chairs and equipment.
