Local Offer

How does the setting/school/college know if children/young people need extra help and what should I do if I think my child/young person may have special educational needs?

Our team are very experienced with supporting families with children that have SEN.

We provide additional support to children where needed. We refer to outside agencies if we feel the child needs additional interventions that we are unable to provide. We work with other agencies to ensure we are meeting the needs of the children in our setting. We get advice from the appropriate professionals when necessary.

How will early years setting/school/college staff support my child/young person?

Children sometimes need individual development plans in place to ensure we are working consistently within our team to support the children to meet their needs. We offer 1 to 1 support to children who need it and refer to the relevant agencies for further support if needed. Visual aids and Makaton are used by all staff to help children to communicate their needs.

How will the curriculum be matched to my child's/young person's needs?

Our curriculum is based around children's individual play and interests. We use planning in the moment to move children on in their development and learning throughout their play everyday.

All activities are made accessible for all children. No child misses out on any play and learning opportunities. We provide resources that are appropriate to the individual children. We ensure they are receiving the best possible experience for them during their time with us.

How will both you and I know how my child/young person is doing and how will you help me to support my child's/young person's learning?

We will communicate verbally with parents each time their child is in and keep them informed of their child's progress. We will work with the parents to discuss what is working and what is not and offer advice of things to try at home.

We have parent consultation meetings every term to discuss their child's learning. We talk about what next steps we are working on with them to ensure they make on-going progress. More regular meetings may be necessary dependent on the needs of the child and the support we are offering the child and family.

What support will there be for my child's/young person's overall well being?

We have a welcoming and compassionate team who are sensitive to the needs of all children. We ensure staff are always available to offer comfort and reassurance to children. They settle them if they are upset. We provide open ended activities. These allow children to explore in their own way and value all efforts and achievements.

We follow the children's interests in their play to ensure their is always something they like and will enjoy.

We carry out yoga sessions and forest school sessions each week. These really help children develop holistically, to cope with stress and anxiety, develop self-esteem and self confidence and can support children in feeling calm and develop self- control.

What specialist services and expertise are avaliable at or accessed by the setting/school/college?

We do not have any specialist services.

What training have the staff supporting children and young people with SEND had?

All staff are very experienced with supporting children with SEND.

We have staff that have completed Elklan training to support the communicating and language needs of the children. We have had Makaton training with the whole team. The staff use this regularly to support children with limited or no language.

Dependent on the needs of the children attending we will attend the necessary training to support their needs.

We have a designated SENCO in the setting who works closely with the rest of the team to ensure all interventions and strategies are being used consistently with the children.

How will my child / young person be included in activities, including trips run by your setting?

All children are included with trips/outings that we arrange. We make sure that additional support is provided if the children require it. If specialised equipment is needed we will ensure that this is arranged prior to the trip/outing going ahead.

How accessible is your education setting? (Indoors and outdoors)

Our setting is accessible for all children. Ramps in and out of the setting provide easy access to each area. Furnishings are arranged so children with mobility aids can move freely around all areas.

All resources and activities are accessible or can be adapted to suit all needs to ensure the pre-school is completely inclusive for all children.

How will the setting or school prepare and support my child to join the setting, school or the next stage of education and life?

Initially we offer all parents and children the opportunity to come in and meet us. We talk about their child's needs and the best way to support their child when starting.

We would offer pre-starter sessions to get to know the child and family and look at what needs to be in place to begin with. Whether this be offering 1 to 1 support with an adult, providing equipment and resources necessary to support their needs or accessing training for the staff to better understand and support the child's needs.

How are the education setting resources allocated and matched to children and young people's Special Educational Needs and disabilities?

We have an extensive range of resources/equipment to suit all needs. Activities and experiences are planned around individual needs and interests. If we do not have a resources or piece of equipment that is necessary for the child, we will endeavour to obtain it.
